With the following measures, we’ve taken another step toward our goal of producing in a fully sustainable way in the near future.
We’re fully aware that we’re not yet able to operate in a completely sustainable way – and that only drives us more to get closer to this goal through innovation and technology.
Our major renovation in the summer of 2022 gave us a unique opportunity: not only to consolidate the entire production of our delicious Baumkuchen at one location, but also to upgrade our equipment with state-of-the-art technology.
Thanks to these technical improvements – along with many (naturally expected) upgrades such as switching entirely to LED lighting – we’ve been able to significantly improve our energy efficiency.
Producing Baumkuchen is a very energy-intensive process, resulting in a considerable electricity bill every year.
From our small manufactory located right in the heart of Cottbus’ historic old town, we bake our beloved Baumkuchen. Cottbus itself is one of the sunniest cities in Germany, so it was only natural for us to take advantage of this.
Since the beginning of 2022, we have installed a large array of solar panels on the roof of our Baumkuchen manufactory, which now actively support us in baking our Baumkuchen.
Since our Baumkuchen are food products, safe and hygienic packaging is extremely important to us. Currently, our Baumkuchen are still wrapped in plastic films, and we are fully aware that this cannot be a permanent solution. We have already begun exploring alternatives to gradually reduce our plastic usage.
In addition to switching our shipping materials to almost exclusively recycled and biodegradable fillers, we are working closely with our suppliers to transition the rest of our plastic packaging to recyclable materials as well.
Online shopping generates CO₂ emissions, and minimizing them is another one of our goals.
For both national and international shipping of our Baumkuchen, we exclusively use DHL GoGreen services. This allows us—and our customers—to jointly contribute to offsetting and reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants, along with their impact on the environment.
